Hope in Washington Square

Where will you find hope these days? Yesterday we found it in Washington Square, a small park in the heart of North Beach district in San Francisco.

After a delicious Italian dinner we went for a walk around the area and stop at this park to enjoy ourselves and practice some "people watching", that was when we noticed a group of young guys having a kind-of-bbq time and two of them were practicing their football skills by throwing and catching the ball. On the side of the park a man was showing his talent with his tap-dancing shoes without much success I should add. But, then suddenly this man removed his shoes, put back the snickers and yelled at one of this young fellaws... throw the ball!... I was expecting the young guys to ignore him but... no! one of them threw the ball and they started a little practice right there in the park... two strangers sharing a football... I said to Sarah: there is still hope for the human race!

Sounds dramatic, I know, but this is not the end of the story. A few minutes later, right after the two strangers stop playing and minded their own business, another guy from the same group having the kind-of-bbq walked in direction to a homeless person sitting in the same park and share with him some of their food (I supposed the leftovers since they were packing) and they exchanged a few words and soon after this guy approached another homeless guy. Our reaction was more than just surprise, it was also a sense of happiness, amusement and kind-of-blessing to be able to see this happening right in front of our eyes.

God bless these folks!
