Llamas, Vicuñas, Alpacas y Guanacos

Today, like almost every day, I was reading the newspaper online El Comercio and there I found a post about an art exposition against the undiscriminated hunting of Vicuñas... cool, right? But this reminded me of the times when some people have asked me about them or they have referred to them as "lamas"... WRONG! the correct pronunciation is "yamas"... anyway, the point is that most people outside Peru don't know the difference between all these animals: llama, vicuña, alpaca y guanaco. So, for your information I am posting here the pictures of all of them.

By the way, if you click in each name you will find more information about them (thanks wikipedia) and if you didn't know it they all belong to the family "Camelidae" or Camelid in English (camels and dromedaries are part of it too). The four of them are also referred as "Auchenia" or Auquenidos is the term in spanish, but this is not consider a valid cientific term anymore.

Keep learning...
